Handbells

  • Advanced

Advanced Handbells meets on Wednesday evenings from 6:40-7:30 in the choir room.  Many of our ringers have been playing handbells for 20 years or more.  All of the members of this group are able to read music to a certain degree.  This enables them to play moderately difficult music that uses a variety of handbell techniques.  In 2010, we were delighted to be able to purchase a fifth octave of bells.  The new bells enable us to play a wider variety of literature and have enhanced the tone of the ensemble.  The Advanced Handbell Choir plays in worship 3-4 times a year.  New members are added as spots become available.

  • Beginner

Beginning Handbells is a relatively new group in the church.  It was created to introduce handbells to people who were interested in learning about bells and wanted to try to play them.  Beginning Handbells is for all ages.  We have members of the youth group as well as adults participating in this ensemble.  We always have room for new members.  Most of the rehearsal time is spent learning handbells techniques and reading relatively simple music.  As this is an introductory ensemble, the emphasis is not on performance.  The group usually plays once or twice a year, and this is determined by the comfort level of the players.  Check with our Director of Music, Beth Mears, for rehearsal times and dates.
