Chancel Choir

The Chancel Choir at FLPC currently has 30 active members, age 21 and older.  Our choir does not have any paid singers at this time, but we have fine musicians and music readers in each section.  This enables us to sing a variety of literature, from classical to contemporary to gospel.  The majority of the members of the Chancel Choir sing at the 11:00 worship service, but we have many volunteers who also meet each Sunday morning at 8:30 to sing at the 9:00 service.  This speaks to the dedication and caring of our choir members.  We rehearse every Wednesday, from 7:30-8:45 p.m., in order to prepare the music for worship.  Most anthems are rehearsed 4-5 weeks before they are actually sung on a Sunday morning.  Choir rehearsals are fun and provide a time of fellowship, but our singers also take their responsibility seriously.   Our desire is to prepare the music well and sing it to the Glory of God.

o In June of 2009, members of our Chancel Choir traveled to New York.  They had been invited to participate in the MasterWorks Series and were able to sing in Carnegie Hall under the direction of Dr. John Leavitt.  The Music Ministry of Forest Lake commissioned an anthem from Dr. Leavitt for the church’s Fiftieth Anniversary Celebration in 2007.  That anthem, As Pants the Hart, has now been incorporated into a larger work, Symphony of Songs, which was sung at the Carnegie Hall performance. Dr. Leavitt also composed a benediction for Forest Lake entitled Blessing. This beautiful piece was published by Augsburg Fortress in 2008 and has now been sung by many other choirs.
