![]() Kirk is the Scottish word for church. Thus Kirk Night, or Church Night, is a time set aside for Christian fellowship for all ages at Forest Lake Presbyterian Church. Kirk Night is on Wednesdays during the school year with breaks for school holidays. The evening starts with dinner and fellowship at 5:30 p.m., followed by a variety of programs for children, youth and adults. Programs and activities provided include speakers or studies for adults; programs for children and youth; choir for preschool, children and adults; handbells; and a nursery for very young children. Meals must be reserved in advance by signing a registration card found in the church pews or by calling the church office, 787-5672, by noon on Tuesday. Please check the web calendar for scheduling or further information. Classes being offered for Winter/Spring 2010: The Good, the Bad, and the Blessed: The People of the BibleLocation:E-205 (CCI)What do deacons, widows, royalty, prophets, and concubines have in common? They all show up, at one time or another, in the Bible! You would be hard pressed to find a more diverse array of characters than appear in the Old and New Testaments. In this class we will take a closer look at these fascinating individuals with whom and through whom God works. Each night will feature a different biblical character and will be led by a different person. Classes meet January 13 through April 28. Hovering: The Ins and Outs of Christian Parenting ClassLocation:Activity RoomYou may have heard the old saying that ?it takes a village to raise a child.? But who needs a village when you have a church? Come join other parents from the FLPC community as we study the books Age of Opportunity: A Biblical Guide to Parenting Teens, The Five Love Languages of Children, and The Five Love Languages of Teenagers, and discuss timely topics such as internet safety and having a child who is learning to drive. Andrea Paschal and Jackie Warrington will lead the class, which will meet from January 13 to April 28. If you would like to take part, please call Travis Webster in the church office so we can be sure to have enough books. Knitting for BeginnersLocation:E-209 (new Hub Hunter class)The art of knitting is making a resurgence, and members of the Prayer Shawl Ministry want to share it with you. If you would like to learn how to knit from experts within our own congregation, simply come and bring your knitting needles and yarn. Sabbath HourLocation:SanctuaryWould you like some quiet time to read your Bible? Pray? Or simply sit and enjoy a little peace? Most Wednesday evenings the sanctuary will be open and available for just this purpose. Simply turn off your cell phone, find a pew, and enjoy some Sabbath time Needling AroundLocation:E-201 (Serendipity)Do you know what quilting, smocking, Swedish weaving, counted cross stitch, and Battenburg lace are? Would you like to find out more? Then Needling Around is for you! Bring examples of your needlework to share and learn about what others have done; if there is enough interest, this group could continue to meet and serve as sources of information and inspiration for one another, or embark on a collaborative project. The inaugural session will be on February 3; future meetings will be scheduled at that time. Please contact Jane Van Wyke (788-6165) if you have any questions. Saving Memories: The Art of ScrapbookingLocation:E-102 (former CEC infant room)All families have a story, told in pictures, newspaper clippings, wedding announcements, and other media. The problem is that this story is so often woefully disorganized. Luckily, there is something that can be done! Scrapbooking is an excellent way to arrange and preserve these memories. Kathy David, a scrapbooking expert, will lead this how-to session, which will take place March 3, 10, 17, and 24 (just in time for the spring graduation season!) Please contact Kathy (234-5656) or Travis Webster (787-5672) if you are interested in this class and need to know where to find scrapbooking supplies. |
