LIFE - Living In Faith EverydayLocation:Education Wing, Upper Level, S-211This is a Sunday school class geared to adults in their 20s, 30s, and 40s, single, married, kids, or no kids. If you are looking for support in living the life of faith everyday, this is the class for you! We will be studying various resources to learn how to make the Sunday-to-Monday, faith-to-life connection. We will be led by a different facilitator for each series, and open discussion will be encouraged. The spring semester will include a continuation of our study on John R. Cross' The Stranger on the Road to Emmaus and a series on The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis. NoomaLocation:Education Wing, Upper Level, E-203The Nooma class is new among FLPC's Sunday morning offerings. Intended for adults in their 20s and early 30s, this course will make use of the Nooma series of short videos. Each film is made from a Jesus perspective, with the full conviction that Jesus was always aware that God is active in the present world and invites his followers into the same kind of awareness. This attentiveness to God's work challenges Christians to enter the divine conversation by engaging in the same searching, questioning, and learning that Jesus himself started. Each class will begin with a viewing of one of the films, followed by discussion. Lenten Study: The Return of the Prodigal SonLocation:Welcome Center, Lower Level, Activity RoomLent is a time of preparation leading to Easter Sunday; it is during these 40 days that Christians concentrate on the sacrifice Jesus made on our behalf as he journeyed to Jerusalem, where he underwent his trial, crucifixion, and death. In entering a season of disciplined study during Lent, we can achieve a greater understanding of how Jesus' saving actions make it possible for us to have true relationship with God. What better way to voyage through this season than by studying Henri Nouwen's reflections on Rembrandt van Rijn's masterpiece The Return of the Prodigal Son? This six-week study will run from February 21 - March 28 and will be led by Dr. Ellen Skidmore. To order a copy of Nouwen's book, please contact Travis by Monday, February 1. |
